The Star Trek franchise has championed a number of progressive causes over the last 50 years. In honor of Earth Day, we'll be showing the environmentally-themed episode "Force of Nature" from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
While searching for a missing Federation ship, the Enterprise is approached by two aliens who insist that warp drive technology -- the basis of Star Trek's faster-than-light transportation through the galaxy -- is destroying the fabric of space in their home star system and a danger to their planet. The crew are initially skeptical, given that many species have used warp drive for centuries without causing any apparent damage. But as the evidence is presented, they are forced to take the accusations seriously.
Discussion will follow the screening. This event is free and open to the public. The Black Cat House is an all-ages venue, a drug- and alcohol-free space, and wheelchair accessible.
