Climate Change Horror Show (a reading discussion)

Climate Change Horror Show (a reading discussion)

–
October 16, 2026

For October we will be hosting another one of our reading discussions. We joke that these are like book clubs, but without the homework of reading an entire book before the discussion. We start with a short reading together out loud, but participation is optional so don't let that intimidate you. We will then discuss what we just read with the rest of our time.

We wanted to look at both the real threat of climate change as well as the psychological impacts of this crisis on humans more particularly. We will start with "‘Super’ El Niño could cause global food price shock lasting into 2028, analysts say" that was published in The Guardian in July 2026. This article very accessibly puts the probable food shortages coming from next year's harvest into the economic terms of how much more our grocery shopping may cost us in the next couple of years. We will follow that with "How to Cope With Climate Anxiety", which offers some practices to keep our personal reactions to the climate crisis "manageable and constructive."

It is not required to read these articles before the event, but if you would like to see them they are here:

As always, our events are free and open to the public. The Black Cat House welcomes all ages, and is a drug and alcohol-free venue. To help keep everyone safe and healthy, we ask that all guests wear face masks in our space. We are wheelchair accessible
