Many in our community are dreading Donald Trump's return to the White House, while others are sensing that now is an obvious time to commit to activist resistance (but they don't know where to start). Between despair on one hand and inexperience on the other, we seem unprepared for four more years of MAGA politics in power. To overcome this paralysis, we need to move beyond aimless venting and brainstorm practical ways of empowering our communities. The Black Cats hope to contribute to this by structuring our next discussion around an article with specific, historical examples of political and cultural resistance.
We will be reading Daniel Hunter's November 4th, 2024 article called "10 Ways to Be Prepared and Grounded Now That Trump Has Won." You can find the article at:
The Black Cats know that many in our community struggle to find time to read. That's why we don't believe in homework! We will spend the first half-hour of this event doing a group reading of the article together; participation is optional, so don't stay away just because you're self-conscious about reading out loud. Everyone will be given a printed copy of the article, and we encourage you to write all over it! We'll spend the rest of our time together discussing what we thought about the piece and how it relates to our political challenges ahead.
This event is free and open to the public. We ask that our guests continue to wear masks to help keep each other safe and healthy. The Black Cat House is an all ages, drug and alcohol-free space. We are wheelchair accessible.
