9/23/24 Minutes

In attendance: Jackson (secretary), Matt
Start time: 7:10 PM

1. Upcoming Event – Our garden tour with Lincoln TRUE is this Sunday. Jackson still needs to put something up online for us to advertise it directly, although we’re already on their other promotional materials. Jackson also has a bit of tidying to do on the porch and in the yard before that happens, but Wyatt will be helping him with that. Ty has said on the Discord that he still plans to be here on Sunday to help Jackson.

2. Promoting October Events – We’re also due to start advertising our October events. The good news is that our next two events, the Columbus Day Protest and They Live movie night, are ones we’ve done before so we can dig up our advertising blurbs from last time and shouldn’t have too much work retooling them for reuse in 2024.

3. Winter Calendar – Matt had a couple of event ideas: LGBTQ Outlook? Discussion Mutual Aid 101? [Whoever wins the election, this country is sick and many are abandoned by civil society] And as discussed last week:
December Winslow’s Wardrobe (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Past Tense [Part I and II]) January Walk For Life Counter-Protest – January 31st
February Movie Ideas: Rebel Ridge (if still available), Free Angela! documentary

Meeting adjourned: 7:45 PM

9/16/2024 Minutes: Events Review, Starting Winter Calendar

In attendance: Jackson (secretary), Lauren, Matt
Start time: 7:10 PM

1. Events Review – We had two events in the last week. We welcomed the Beehive Collective to UNL campus on Wednesday afternoon. Jackson gave their speaker the money we promised them. Jackson estimates that there about 100 different people came and saw at least part of the presenation. We also received the Bees’ new-ish children’s book adaptation of “The True Cost of Coal.” We also had our movie night for The Breadwinner on Friday night. We had a nice turnout for that film, and a spirited (if not very focused) discussion afterwards.

2. Winter Calendar –

In attendance: Jackson (secretary), Lauren, Matt, Salem, Sierra
Start time: 7:05 PM

1. Upcoming Events – The Bees are coming to UNL this Wednesday! We’re going to contribute $250 towards their visit. We’re also showing The Breadwinner on Friday night. It’s a busy week for us, but we’re ready!

2. Fall Calendars – Jackson got UNL City Campus done this afternoon, but we’re still needing to hit all of our other spots besides the Unitarian Church and Meadowlark. We’ve got some volunteers here that will help ASAP. Jackson will be reimbursed $36.35 for getting those printed for us.

3. Web Reimbursement – Our website’s hosting has been renewed for another three years. Jackson will be reimbursed $539.64 for getting that paid off.

Meeting adjourned: 8:08 PM

9/2/24 Minutes: Fall Calendars Ready, September Event Prep

In attendance: Jackson (secretary), Matt
Start time: 7:10 PM

1. Fall Calendars Printed – Jackson went and got them printed last week. We’re going to table reimbursement to next week, when hopefully we’ll have more Black Cats on hand to approve it. We need to get distributing! Jackson has only had put one up at the Unitarian Church. Matt took one for Meadowlark.

2. September Events – We need to get to advertising them online VERY soon. Jackson will reach out to Salem to see if they can draft something for our movie (which is already next week!). Jackson will start working on the garden tour event coming up at the end of the month.

Meeting adjourned: 7:34 PM

8/19/24: Beehive Collective, Fall Calendar

In attendance: Jackson (secretary), Matt, Salem, Ty
Start time: 7:07 PM

1. Event Review – Winslow’s Wardrobe was back here on Saturday. We served a handful of people some free clothes. We’re tentatively thinking planning to bring them back in December, since the fall is already pretty busy for us and them.

2. Beehive Promotion – Lou got us a batch of posters for the Bees’ upcoming visit, and a list of places he’s distributed them. We will put a few more up around town.

3. Fall Calendar – Matt has a nearly finished draft of our calendar. All we need a handful of descriptive blurbs. We can hopefully get these printed this week.

Meeting adjourned: 8:08 PM

8/12/24 Minutes: Upcoming Winslow’s Wardrobe Event, Salt Creek Zine Fest, Fall Calendar

In attendance: Aaron, Elijah, Jackson (secretary), Marc, Matt, Ty
Start time: 7:20 PM

  1. Event Review – We had our Godzilla (1954) movie night on Friday. We had maybe our best turnout of any movie night this year, and a spirited discussion afterwards. Also, our new greeter cat Lucy was a huge hit.
  2. Upcoming Event – Winslow’s Wardrobe is coming back on Saturday. We need to do some last-minute advertising online!
  3. Salt Creek Zine Fest – It’s also happening on Saturday afternoon. Marc reports that it has been moved to the F Street Rec Center. He hopes that the two events might cross-pollinate to some degree.
  4. Reimbursement – Jackson had to renew one of our website domains in early August. He will be reimbursed $36.17.
  5. Fall Calendar –
  • Wednesday, September 11th, 3-6 PM (@ UNL City Union’s Regency Suite): Beehive Collective
  • Friday, September 13th, 7-10 PM: Movie Night: The Breadwinner
  • Sunday, September 29th, Time TBD: Rewilding Garden Tour
  • Monday, October 14th, 4:30-6 PM: Columbus Day Counter-protest
  • Friday, October 18th, 7-10 PM: Movie Night: They Live
  • Saturday, October 26th, 1-3 PM: Can We Vote Our Way Out of This Mess? (a community discussion)
  • Friday, November 8th, 7-10 PM: Movie Night: The Transexual Menace
  • Saturday, November 16th, 1-3 PM: “Talking to Your Racist Uncle” (workshop/discussion)

Meeting adjourned: 8:35 PM

8/5/24: No Meeting

Not enough people showed for the meeting to have any formal agenda. Jackson had a good discussion with those who did show about our gardening efforts. We’ll try tackling other projects next week!

07/29/24 Minutes: Event Review, Fall Calendar

In attendance: Jackson (secretary), Matt, Salem
Start time: 7:10 PM

1. Event Review – We had our anti-Amazon discussion on Saturday. It was only attended by Black Cats. Matt thinks we should consider spending money on a KZUM ad to promote one of our most interesting fall events.

2. Fall Calendar – We still need to finalize details on the Bees and the Garden Tour. Jackson has been in contact with Lou, and it does sound like we’re going to have a room in the UNL Union for the Bees. Jackson sent in the Garden Tour application over the weekend and is now waiting to hear back from its organizers.

Meeting adjourned: 8:00 PM
