In attendance: Jackson (secretary), Salem
Start time: 7:05 PM
- Event Review – Our reading discussion on mutual aid was on Saturday. Salem was really excited for it and had done additional research, but they unfortunately fell ill on the day of and had to leave early. Jackson thought that the conversation was still good and that the folks we had were engaged in the material, even though he’s not an expert on mutual aid.
- Upcoming Event – Our Who Killed the Electric Car? movie night is this Friday. We’re ready for it.
- Stickers! – Jackson got our stickers ordered shortly after last week’s meeting, and they showed up on the porch this afternoon! We’re very excited to start handing them out. Jackson will need to be reimbursed $348.84 for ordering these.
- Earth Day Tabling – Salem is making progress on the presentation for our table at Lincoln Earth Day.
- Summer Calendar
Jackson remembered that we might have a movie night for August; those anarchists touring with their new documentary about mutual aid last mentioned on Signal that they may be touring through Lincoln in August. We’ll need to follow up with them.
Ideas from last week:
Star Trek TNG 2-parter about AI “girlfriends”
A leftist look at the USA at 250 – discussion for July? — Jackson is excited about this
Do we table again at Disability Pride?
Do we look into tabling at Juneteenth?
Star City Pride June 12th-14th; we’ll black out those dates
Pride season movies: Transformer (2017 documentary) or I Saw the TV Glow (2024 horror) [could the latter be scary enough to save for October?]
Winslow’s Wardrobe Back-to-School Distro in August?
Movie idea: Vivarium (2019); Anthony’s recommendation
pride season discussion: Why are queer folks the primary targets of culture war
anti-Iran war ideas: Persepolis movie night_; Coup 53 (documentary about overthrowing Mossadegh)
discussion about U.S. imperialism in Middle East?
a discussion about how we fight back against an administration that “says the quiet parts out loud”
Does war in the Middle East create openings for more renewable energy? (Silver lining kind of discussion?)
Meeting adjourned: 8:10 PM
