4/20/26 Minutes: Lincoln Earth Day, Summer Calendar

In attendance: Anthony, Jackson (secretary), Nate
Start time: 7:05 PM

  1. Event Review – Winslow’s Wardrobe was back on Saturday. It was a slow day, but one of our friends came through and got some stuff. The Winslow crew were ok with it, though, and they’ll be back in August.
  2. Upcoming Event – We’re committed to table at Lincoln Earth Day on Saturday. Anthony and Nate might be able to join Salem. Jackson is unavailable, but will try to get some environmentally focused zines copied for distribution there. Nate asked about an “FAQ sheet” to better prepare for folks’ questions about the Black Cat House; Jackson thinks it’s a good idea, and will try to work on it. Further coordination might take place on our Discord, especially since Salem was unavailable tonight.
  3. Plant Photos – Anthony wants to take some pictures of plants growing in the yard for his own research purposes. Jackson says that’s fine.
  4. Summer Calendar – Anthony has a new movie recommendation: a documentary called Hacking at Leaves, which deals with U.S. colonialism, Indigenous history, and computer hacking. It’s an odd combination, but it might make for a good movie night. Jackson asked if we could possibly save it for the fall calendar for Native American History Month.

Anthony also spoke about watching Vivarium recently, which we’ve previously discussed. He really enjoyed it as a film, but is still formulating a rationale for why it would be “Black Cat material.”

Previous ideas (that we didn’t have much time to revisit tonight):
Star Trek TNG 2-parter about AI “girlfriends”
A leftist look at the USA at 250 – discussion for July? — Jackson is excited about this
Do we table again at Disability Pride?
Do we look into tabling at Juneteenth?
Star City Pride June 12th-14th; we’ll black out those dates
Pride season movies: Transformer (2017 documentary) or I Saw the TV Glow (2024 horror) [could the latter be scary enough to save for October?]
Winslow’s Wardrobe Back-to-School Distro in August?
Movie idea: Vivarium (2019); Anthony’s recommendation
pride season discussion: Why are queer folks the primary targets of culture war
anti-Iran war ideas: Persepolis movie night_; Coup 53 (documentary about overthrowing Mossadegh)
discussion about U.S. imperialism in Middle East?
a discussion about how we fight back against an administration that “says the quiet parts out loud”
Does war in the Middle East create openings for more renewable energy? (Silver lining kind of discussion?)

Meeting adjourned: 8:27 PM
