8/30/21 Minutes: Calendar Distro, Sept Events, No Meeting Next Monday

In attendance: Jackson (secretary), Ty
Start time: 7:25 PM

  1. Calendar Distro Update – Ty has had a rough week and not been able to do what he meant to last week. Jackson is willing to help with distro. Ty still needs to get a few more printed. Jackson may be fliering in the Haymarket this week.
  2. Hyping September Events – Ty will try his hand at drafting descriptions for our September events (another Garden Day and our Far Right vs Education discussion), as well as the upcoming Columbus Day protest in October.
  3. Next Monday – With Marc and Ty unavailable next Monday, and Wyatt likely to still be out of state, we decided to cancel next Monday’s meeting. We will meet next on Monday, September 13th.

Meeting adjourned: 8:00 PM

8/23/2021 Minutes: Art, Website, Calendar Distro Updates; Library Donation

In attendance: Jackson, Ty
Start time: 7:15 PM

Library donation: After some deliberation whether it was going to be kept personally, Margaret has sent down the book Self-Care Down There to the library.

Art: A local artist left us a very nice note last week, wanting to trade some art in return to use our produce table. Wyatt contacted them back and said that the produce table was free to take from! The artist brought by a lovely piece anyway! We also saw that they have done art for A Novel Idea, and Jackson brought up the possibility of us reaching out to them for cat-themed art as well.

Jess has made good progress on the rain barrel murals! She also brought by some physical donation items.

Jackson and Ty shot around some ideas for a revamped Black Cat House logo by June for the 10th anniversary of the House, including maybe printing buttons!

Website: Website hasn’t progressed that much, but Marc wanted it brought up that we should be using the tagging system more reliably to make searching through minutes easier.

Calendar distro: Wyatt’s spots on South St. and 17th have been done. We will have to double check Meadowlark, because there were art displays on the windows so they were not posting fliers at the moment.

Jackson reports that A Novel Idea does NOT have a place to put up calendars inside anymore. Qdoba also does not have a bulletin board. Game Room does not have the window space, either. Starbucks on P St. DOES have a bulletin board, so we can add that to the list instead. He did get a flier at Indigo Bridge, which he found out was actually using a second floor apartment in that building.

Ty has to revisit a few spots on his route because they were closed when he attempted to go. Andrews Hall does not have a convenient bulletin board anymore.

We should probably get more larger fliers, so Ty will order another print of those.

Meeting adjourned: 7:52 PM

8/16/21 Minutes: Fall Calendar Distro

In attendance: Jackson (secretary), Marc, Ty, Wyatt
Start time: 7:20 PM

  1. Event Review – We had a garden workshop here on Saturday. We got a few beds cleared and cover crops planted. We had some family show up, but we didn’t necessarily get a great turnout. Ty points out that it was maybe unattractive to a lot of our people between the recent heat wave and climbing Delta Covid numbers. We’re doing another one next month, and we’re excited for it.
  2. Library donation – Jackson has two new books for our library. Folks like ’em.
  3. Fall calendar distro – Wyatt will do South Street tomorrow. Ty will do the UNL campus stuff, Haymarket, and Near-South. Marc will do the stuff that’s “drive-worthy.” Jackson will do rest of downtown.

Meeting adjourned: 8:10 PM

8/9/21 Minutes: Fall Calendar Distro, Website Progress

In attendance: Jackson (secretary), Marc (moderator), Ty
Start time: 7:10 PM

  1. Upcoming Event – Garden Day is this Saturday, and we’re excited for it. Wyatt is supposed to be back in town to lead this, and Jackson will keep in touch with him in case there are any complications there.
  2. Fall Calendar Distro – The calendars are getting printed this week. Ty has prepared a recent list on the Black Cat website of our potential fliering locations. We will discuss specific fliering commitments via the group chat later in the week.
  3. Website – Marc has created a few new draft pages for our website update. The content is still very much subject to updating later, but progress is being made!
  4. YouTube – Jackson hasn’t had time to update the outline draft for the indoor tour video. He’s still planning to get this done.

Meeting adjourned: 7:35 PM

8/2/21 Minutes: Upcoming Event, Reimbursement, Fall Calendar, YouTube

In Attendance: Jackson, Ty (moderator), Marcus (secretary), Wyatt
Start Time: 7:40 PM

Upcoming Event – The gardening day event on August 14 is all ready and set to go. The Facebook event is live and sharable, and Wyatt prepared a list of things attendees can do and learn about.

Reimbursement – We needed to renew the domain for our website, which cost $32.99. Jackson covered the cost of the renewal, and we unanimously voted to reimburse him for the full amount from the treasury.

Fall Calendar – Marc designed the calendar and handbills for our fall events. The designs were approved, and we’re ready to print and post them!

We also need to look over the list of businesses/etc. to distribute calendars, as some may have been pandemic casualties or don’t truly have public posting boards. Our previous posting list is in the minutes of November 4, 2019, from when we expanded said list. (Right before the pandemic, no less. Yeeeowch!)

We discussed adding a few new locations: Indigo Bridge’s new location, Transformations thrift store, F Street Community Church, Pepe’s, a new vegan Cajun food place, plus the other Mill locations and Cultiva East.

For now, we plan on printing 25 copies of both the large calendars and the handbills for distribution. At least one large calendar will go into the BCH archives.

YouTube – Jackson created an outline for the video tour of the inside of BCH. We talked extensively about what the video could contain, how to organize information within it, how to arrange the house, and additional parts of the BCH to include. Ty edited Jackson’s outline to include the following info: Kitten Corner, accessibility, that we accept library donations, a list of supplies we make available, tying elements of the space to events we’ve held, setting up the space to be “presentation/move” style, and inviting the viewers to participate in the BCH by attending events or joining these planning meetings.

Additionally, the trailer video for YouTube can only be a certain length, so we will need to edit our filmed trailer so it fits within those parameters. Marc will find some editing software to take care of this. Depending on how easy the video editing process is, we can also plan to do more editing for the BCH inside tour video.

Meeting adjourned: 8:30 PM

7/26/21 Minutes: Murals, Fall Calendar, Web Stuff

In attendance: Jackson (secretary), Jess, Marc, Ty, Wyatt
Start time: 7:10 PM

  1. YouTube – We’ve had a really nice reaction to the gardening video we put on YouTube last week! We spent some time brainstorming our next video, which should be an overview of the inside of our space to complement the garden overview video. Jackson volunteers to draft an outline for our content for this video and bring that to next Monday’s meeting. TABLED.
  2. Website – We’re anxious to get our website overhauled! We need to get some content created and edited to fill out the new site. To-do list: Review defining documents, Describe events, Space description. Wyatt volunteers to start drafting outlines for this content. TABLED.
  3. Upcoming Event – Wyatt got the event posted last Monday night. Invite your friends! He’s bought some seeds, and we’ll be doing some planting.
  4. Murals – Jess is interested in painting murals on the plywood covering the sides of our rain barrel arrays! Wyatt commits to getting the supplies she needs together and will be in contact with her when we are ready to move forward.
  5. Fall calendar –

Saturday, September 18, 1-3 PM: Garden Day
Saturday, September 25, 1-3 PM: The Far Right vs. Education (a community discussion) [working title]

We need to finalize this next Monday! TABLED.

Meeting adjourned: 8:40 PM

Tabled Items: Indoor Tour video for YouTube, Website outline, Fall calendar

7/19/21 Minutes: Event Review, August Event

In attendance: Jackson (secretary), Wyatt

Start time: 7:30 PM

  1. Event Review – We had our discussion on the porch about the local Democrats on Friday night. We had a great turnout, with folks from three different generations in conversation. The subject really seemed to excite and engage folks. Maybe the local edge to it was intriguing, or maybe we were just overdue to go after the Democrats again. We moved the event back to 8 PM on a few hours’ notice, which was confusing. Our folks who weren’t on social media still showed up at 7 PM, and we basically had two events: a pre-discussion starting immediately with the (primarily older) folks, and then the younger folks showed up at 8 since they had seen the time change. We probably shouldn’t make these kind of last-minute schedule changes in the future, since there are so many people in our circles that aren’t plugged into social media. Wyatt suggests that if when we find ourselves double-booked in the future, we may be better served going ahead as planned and splitting our collective to also be sure some of our folks are joining the other action.

2. August Event – Wyatt spent the remainder of our meeting time getting our August Garden Day event online.

Meeting adjourned: 8:30 PM

7/12/21 Minutes: Friday Discussion, YouTube, Fall Calendar

In attendance: Jackson (moderator), Marc, Ty (secretary), Wyatt
Meeting Start: 7:25 PM

Upcoming Event: Friday night discussion! We’ve shared it around Facebook – Seeing Red Nebraska also shared the event! We’ve talked to other folks who are very excited about this event, and we’re optimistic for local action coming out of it. We need to brush up on local stuff (unicameral, etc.) and perhaps prep some similar literature. We also need to do some major cleaning of the space.

Yard Update: Wyatt was able to get the city inspector to drop the fine, on the condition that we move the wood pile to the side yard and we move the white soil bags from the yard.

Web Hosting: Blue Host has billed us for three year hosting and our web domains – $431.64.

YouTube: We have a YouTube channel! It now has the video for Black Musicians and Liberation (though the accurate subtitles are still in the works). We also recorded a showcase for the garden that Ty will get uploaded, Wyatt will add a description and we’ll get that published soon! We also recorded the trailer video that plays upon first viewing of the channel.

Website Updates: We will still need to table this for editing the content, but Marc has a list of updates to make. Tabled.

Fall Calendar: here’s the current status of our fall calendar…

Saturday, September 18, 1-3 PM: Garden Day
Sunday, October 10, 1-3 PM: Anti-Columbus Day Protest Sign Making Party

07/05/21 Minutes: Youtube, Website, Fall Calendar

Relationship with City Regulators- We received a fine from the City for the first time ever. We believe that we are not in violation of any laws. Wyatt is in the process of preparing a written defense argument.

Upcoming Events – Jackson wrote a lovely description for our event “With Jackasses like these, who needs the Elephants?” We all read it and made a couple suggestions. Jackson will make edits and post the event. Marc will create a banner image for the facebook event. The event is next Friday. Will be posted online and shared out.

Library Donations – Jackson is donating two more books for the library. Pocket edition of Beautiful Trouble. This book includes sections in tactics, principles, and theory. Also a pamphlet from PM press about the personal feud between Marx and Bakunin. Thank you Jackson.

Youtube Video – We have a You Tube channel! Ty is working on the captions forthcoming.

We want to make a video about the garden. We are discussing what content we want in the video.

Who we are, going on 9 years old, going on 3 years of gardening. Why we do it, how to do it cheaply, and how to do it accessibly. Downsides. About 15 min. Jackson will read a mission statement type thing and Marc will film. We would also like to create a channel trailer.

Website Updates – Ty and Marc worked on the website. They have many excellent ideas. We need more time to discuss this. Tabled.
