7/22/15 Minutes: Copy Machine, Sama, Fall Calendar

In attendance: Jackson (secretary), Ty (moderator)
Start time: 7:00 PM

1. Event Review – We showed 416 on Saturday night. Turnout was a bit low, but the discussion was very good.

2. Upcoming Event – Trekkies For Humanism returns this Friday. We’re ready for it. We’ll be sure to plug it on Facebook in the next couple of days.

3. Reimbursement – Jackson bought some new dry-erase markers for the house, as ours were dried out. We reimburse him $3.21 for the expense.

4. Copy Machine – We still need to replace ours. Jackson will see what he can find locally. We’re thinking we have a budget of around $200.

5. Sama – The concert/discussion is coming up fast! Sammi reports he is nearly done with our flier. Jackson will be making the Facebook event at the conclusion of the meeting tonight, and will also be sending Sama another follow-up email.

6. Fall Calendar – Ty still needs some digital files to build the calendar; he’ll need to contact Ashley about that.

Meetings are returning to Monday nights at 7 PM. Open hours will not return for fall.

Will we continue to run Trekkies For Humanism?

Movie Night: Transexual Menace

November 8, 2024

Originally produced as a TV documentary in 1996, Transexual Menace portrays the personal lives of trans people through interviews and footage. Director Rosa von Praunheim focuses on the burgeoning trans rights activist groups in the United States by following the history of the movement from its early days into the 1990s. With all the modern-day attacks on our transgender friends, family, and neighbors, this documentary highlights just how critical supporting the trans community is, and how long people have fought to live as their authentic selves.

Discussion will follow the movie. This event is free and open to the public. The Black Cat House welcomes all ages, and is a drug and alcohol-free venue. To help keep everyone safe and healthy, we ask that all guests wear face masks in our space. We are wheelchair accessible.

Talking to Your Racist Uncle: A Workshop/Discussion

November 16, 2024

Are you being dragged along to your grandma's Thanksgiving party where she sets out decorations with Native caricatures?
Already bracing yourself for the nonsense your uncle will spew about the "war on Christmas?"
Is the holiday season a source of dread because of the hateful conversations your family has across the dinner table?
Or, in the wake of the elections last week, maybe you haven't figured out how you're going to respond to your MAGA grandpa's gloating?
Regardless of your religion or background, the holiday season probably means you're going to be attending some extended family gatherings. Bad takes and bigoted ideas could be coming from one or more of your relatives, and that can be an awkward and stressful experience. Join us on November 16th as we come together to workshop strategies and solutions for this particularly tricky time of the year. We'll share tips and tricks with one another on how to push back on the prejudice and steer the conversation in productive ways.
This event is free and open to the public. We ask that our guests continue to wear masks to help keep each other safe and healthy. The Black Cat House is an all ages, drug and alcohol-free space. We are wheelchair accessible
